CE JIAN

www.cejian.de

Born 1984 in Shandong (China), she moved to Berlin 1989, where she now lives and works. Between 2002-2008 she studied Fine Arts with Baselitz, Daniel Richter and Robert Lucander at the UdK Berlin (Meisterschüler), as well as art history and philosophy at the HU and FU Berlin until 2009 (M.A.). In 2010 she went to Shanghai and Beijing for an artist residency.
She had several solo exhibitions at Galerie Läkemäker, Berlin (2008/2009), White Space Beijing (2010), Galerija Contra, Slovenia (2009/2011) and took part in group shows in Berlin (Alexander Ochs Galleries, Uferhallen, Forgotten Bar), Cologne, Essen and Beijing.

Her works deal with human figures and natural/artificial identities that manifest themselves in their bodies and physiognomies. The analysis and construction of our physical form with the help of new technologies and scientific methods becomes within the painting or drawing an interplay between figurative and abstract elements, creating a kind of hybrid picture. Their formal ambivalence is a reflection of the strange double-reality of artificial creatures and organic simulations.

MAURICE DOHERTY

mauricedoherty.com

Almost a century ago, the documentation of actions, situations, performances replaced the sacrosanct art object. Modernist idealism died. With every Surrealist or Dadaist mêlée, art and it's objects were torn, shattered, turned upside down and left to fend for themselves in a world going to hell with handcart. Glasgow-based Maurice Doherty works in this Dadaist tradition, trying it to the no nonsense clarity of conceptual art. His lens based, sculptural and two-dimensional work is always funny, but the humour is black. These are dark times. "
